And we believe, too, that this is what will be valued by the Industry.

1The first of these is that the University will be Industry–Linked. This is being implemented through a very close connection between Industry and the University in developing the curriculum. The second activity is that the under-graduate as well as post-graduate students would spend a full six-month semester undertaking industry practice or internship in the Masters program. The third kind of activity would be deep–engagement of industry professionals in teaching at the University – either by visiting or through the use of technology like the Synchronous Learning technology that is deployed at NIIT’s Imperia classrooms. And the fourth, of course is a very deep engagement of Industry in the recruitment and placement process of passing graduates.

2The second core principle is Technology-Based. This is where the 27 years of experience of NIIT Ltd, its expertise and knowledge that has been created in computer education would be harnessed for the benefit of the University – making it a trend-setter in the use of science and technology in the entire teaching–learning process; as well as the process of managing education.

3The third core principle is Research-Driven; and this goes well beyond having exceptionally good laboratories. It starts, in fact, with the principle that right in the first year of the Bachelor’s degree program, students will be educated so that a research mind-set is built into their way of studying. For example, rather than their preparing or finding answers to the known questions, they would perhaps focus on looking for new questions; or the fact that if they were to do a BTech project, we would encourage the involvement and interaction of a group of student-doctorates from the PhD program or the Masters program who would participate along with them.

4And finally the fourth core principle is what we call Seamlessness. Seamlessness has many many dimensions – starting from the fact that life would be multi-disciplinary and students would have free choice to move between different electives and streams. Seamlessness also means that projects would be done by groups not just across disciplines but also across different levels including PhD, Masters and BTech students working collaboratively. It also shows up in the way the campus is laid out with the central pedestrian spine that binds the residential, the academic areas and the staff areas in a very seamless fashion. Seamless also is the manner in which the built part of the campus integrates very beautifully with the hillocks on the side which run all along the 100 acre area of the campus.

These, then, are the four cornerstones of the NIIT University – and it is not just philosophy but is already in practice.

As you probably know, the University campus is located in the foothills of the Aravali range, close to the historic Neemrana fort. The proposed NIIT University falls under the aegis of the Government of Rajasthan Education (Gr-4) Department Guidelines for the Establishment of Private Universities by Separate Act. A Letter of Intent (LOI) to this effect from the Government of Rajasthan was received vide letter No. F 3 (24) Edu. IV / 2005 dated July 10, 2008. The necessary compliance report has been filed with the authorities of the Government of Rajasthan after addressing all requirements stipulated in the aforesaid LOI.

The Gr-4 plays an important role in bringing about the quantitative and qualitative improvement in the higher education in the State. They help in obtaining development grants from the U.G.C. and in providing grants for organization of the academic conferences and seminars.

To give you an update on the University infrastructure, two of the academic blocks and hostels are near completion thereby making us ready for the pioneering batch of students in the B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programs offered by the university.

A point of personal pride is our broad-based admissions process, which is designed to take into consideration multiple performances and not just a single exam.

Keeping in mind our policy of seamless integration, the admission for the M.Tech program is based on public examinations, the first degree program, GATE / NET, an online test and personal interview by a panel of experts.

The PhD program on the other hand, besides taking into account previous academic performance, also focuses on an individual’s research capabilities.

The NIIT University understands the lacuna created by the prevailing education system in India, and the attempt is to provide a wholesome education experience rather than a purely academic one. We have taken immense pride in being at the forefront of the education revolution and this venture – the NIIT University – which the company has sponsored, is the next logical step in the evolution process.

The NIIT University, as signified by our logo - The Mobius Ring – is the embodiment of integration. Education by itself doesn’t necessarily make good managers. Education backed by research and technology, supported by cross industry tie-ups does; and that is what we felt was missing in the current scenario. To fill this void, we have equipped the university with state-of-the-art technology-enabled teaching and a strong research-focused curriculum. This, coupled with our industry partnership program ensures that you get the relevant experience from those who are at the forefront of modern business practices.

Starting off with B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programs for the academic session 2009-2010, we plan to strengthen the foundation of Trust, Innovation and Technology that has been created by NIIT.
